Quick Answer

Must the FDACS letter of intent to sponsor be notarized?

It depends on the exact form and revision you will file. Class C application materials state you may begin work if you submit a completed, notarized FDACS-16026. The standalone FDACS-16026 Rev. 01/14 prints notarial blocks for the primary and alternate sponsor. A Rev. 04/2020 embed inside Class C/CC packets has shown signatures and a section 837.06 warning without those jurats. FDACS materials for this workflow may differ by form revision or application package. Confirm the exact form number, revision date and current filing instructions before signing.

iRemoteNotary helps when the page you will sign prints a notarial section. Do not invent a notary certificate where the visible form lacks one. Eligibility for remote notarization and recipient acceptance are separate questions. The Division of Licensing decides completeness and licensure.

How 16026 and 16027 relate

The sponsor (Class C, MA, or M for PI interns; Class E or MR pathways for recovery, as the form instructions state) agrees to direction and control and to semi-annual progress reporting on FDACS-16033. When sponsorship ends, the sponsor uses FDACS-16016 or 16017.

When instructions say notarized but the page looks different

FDACS materials currently appear to differ between the form and the instructions for the PI sponsor letter of intent.

Class C instructions

Current Class C application materials state you may begin work as an unarmed private investigator upon submission of a complete application if you submit a completed, notarized Letter of Intent to Sponsor (Form FDACS-16026).

Standalone FDACS-16026 Rev. 01/14

The hosted standalone PDF prints notarial blocks for the primary sponsor and the alternate sponsor.

Packet-embedded Rev. 04/2020

Inside reviewed Class C and Class CC packets, the embedded LOI carries Rev. 04/2020, shows sponsor signatures, and warns under section 837.06, Florida Statutes. Those reviewed embeds do not print the same jurat blocks as the standalone Rev. 01/14.

What to do

Use the page the sponsor will sign. If that page has no notarial section, do not schedule a notarization of a certificate that is not there. Send the exact unsigned form, including the revision date, before scheduling. FDACS materials for this workflow may differ by form revision or application package. Confirm the exact form number, revision date and current filing instructions before signing.

Send the exact FDACS form

Send the exact unsigned FDACS form you are using, including the form number and revision date.

Who signs

The primary sponsor signs. An alternate sponsor signs only if designated. The intern is not the LOI signer. An agency coordinator can submit the request, but the named sponsor appears on camera.

Online notarization considerations

When the exact LOI page prints a notarial certificate, a remote online notarization may be possible if identity and platform rules are met. Eligibility for remote notarization and recipient acceptance are separate questions. The Division of Licensing decides completeness and licensure.

Agencies with many interns

Investigation, security, and recovery companies that sponsor multiple interns can reuse the same request path for each eligible LOI. There is no published volume discount or agency subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Why do FDACS-16026 versions disagree?

Standalone Rev. 01/14 prints two jurats. Rev. 04/2020 inside Class C/CC packets may not, while Class C instructions still say to submit a notarized 16026. Confirm which version the agency requires.

Who signs the letter of intent?

The primary sponsor, and the alternate sponsor if one is designated. The intern does not sign the LOI.

Is FDACS-16027 the same as 16026?

It is the recovery-intern counterpart. The reviewed standalone Rev. 01/14 also prints dual-sponsor notarial blocks.

What if instructions say notarized but I see no notary block?

Use the page the sponsor will sign. Send that unsigned page for review. Do not invent a certificate that is not printed.

Can our agency batch sponsor LOIs?

Yes, through the same request path for each eligible form. There is no public bulk price.
