This is one of the most important practical distinctions for an international signer.
A document created and signed electronically remains an electronically executed document even if someone later prints the PDF.
The printed page may be perfectly acceptable to a particular recipient.
But printing does not cause the electronic signatures to become handwritten signatures.
It also does not automatically create whatever type of original paper record a recipient means when it asks for an “original.”
Ask the receiving organization exactly what it requires.
Useful questions include:
• Do you accept the electronic original PDF?
• Do you accept a printed copy of an electronically notarized document?
• Do you require handwritten signatures?
• Do you require the notary's physical ink signature or physical seal?
• Do you require a paper original for recording, filing, authentication, or legalization?
Do not rely on assumptions about the word “original.”
